In a few days we will be exhibiting in New York at the Interop Expo. In addition to learning more about how accelerated and managed file transfer can help your organization, we’ll be demonstrating two of our latest additions: the Outlook plugin for FileCatalyst Webmail, and also our Amazon AMIs, which enable accelerated transfer to the cloud (remember how transfer speeds were such that Amazon created a system for submitting through physical media shipments? Problem solved!).

FileCatalyst Webmail and Workflow have had an incremental update, bringing our Enterprise web applications up to version 4.3.1

webmail_workflow1

Outlook_PluginThis release marks the first appearance of our new Outlook™ Plugin for FileCatalyst Webmail. The plugin integrates directly into Outlook for Windows, allowing people to send large files without leaving their email client. Transfers are still tracked by the Webmail application as before; the only difference is the mechanism for initiating the transfer. The plugin is currently in public beta, so if you are using it and come across any problems or have any suggestions, feel free to drop us a line using our Contact Form. Click the image to see full-size.

In addition to the new plugin, here are some of the key features and improvements:

  • Improved retry and resume when transfering files with the Java Applets.
  • Added the ability to show upload time, number of files, total file size and upload bitrate on the job list and on the job details pop-up screen.
  • Added new email tags {BITRATE} {TOTALNUMBEROFFILES} {ESTIMATEDUPLOADTIME} {TOTALSIZE}
  • Added a new Global Address Book Setting – “Show Global Address Book to Directory users only” – Webmail only
  • Import of CSV files to Global Address book is now more robust
  • Added ability to display company name on Admin job list page
  • Fixed resending jobs when the original files were uploaded with form upload
  • Fixed deleting and registering new users when Internal FC Server is disabled
  • Fixed Job Path location in Workflow

One of our favourite events last year was the GDC held in Austin, TX. This year is shaping up for a similar positive experience. Part of what makes the event is the event itself– meeting up with game developers and people from related fields always results in some interesting conversations. The other part of it is the location. If your path crosses with some of the Austin locals, you’re likely to meet some of the friendliest people around.

At the GDC, FileCatalyst will not be focusing on a particular product. Our three main products (FileCatalyst Direct, FileCatalyst Webmail, and FileCatalyst Workflow) each have a potential place in the kinds of organizations attending the show. Workflow and Direct tended to get the most attention at last year’s show (Workflow is a submission and tracking system; Direct provides a point-to-point solution and the “core” acceleration technology) but Webmail is a great choice for organizations that are looking to move beyond “email attachment” as a file transfer method.

We have always had a client-side API and SDK, but this past year has seen us bring our other options (web services, javascript API for applets, .NET wrapper) together under one umbrella, named rather obviously as “FileCatalyst Development Kit“. The Development Kit brings together several options for people wanting to augment or create their own file transfer system with FileCatalyst technology at its core.

Come see us at GDC Austin at booth 827. The expo runs from the 16th to the 18th.
