FileCatalyst Webmail: Online Storage

We were looking for a user-friendly system to replace our aging FTP, and needed a web-based solution with Active Directory integration, easy management and built-in maintenance. After evaluating multiple options, we chose FileCatalyst Webmail.

File Area Access
FileCatalyst Webmail may be used as a straightforward file storage area, independent of the “large attachment” functionality. In short, it can be used for the same purpose as a standard FTP server.
FileCatalyst provides options for direct access to individual and group file areas (click to expand):
The popularity of online storage is unquestionably due to convenience. FileCatalyst Webmail is convenient, but doesn't carry the privacy and security risks or storage size limitations that online services do.
Access your own files from anywhere in the world that has an internet connection, using nothing more than a web browser. All activity in the file area has a user-accessible history for security and convenience.
Unlike many online storage services which include only web-based access, FileCatalyst Webmail offers the ability to use the FileCatalyst HotFolder desktop application. This application can be used to automate large attachments, but can also be used to automate upload and download tasks to and from a watched (“hot”) folder on the user's system.
Mobile Upload App
The FileCatalyst Upload applet allows users to send files from their iOS mobile device to an individual or group file storage area. (Android app coming soon)
The FileCatalyst Express desktop client closely resembles common FTP clients. With its two-pane interface (local files, remote files), users who are accustomed to standard FTP applications will feel right at home. Simply drag and drop to or from the remote filesystem to initiate a transfer to and from the file area.
Application Programming Interface (API)
FileCatalyst offers a client-side SDK, which contains an API and sample code which will allow 3rd-party developers to create new FileCatalyst-powered transfer tools. If your organization already uses custom-built software, you can easily add FileCatalyst as the file transfer mechanism.
Individual and Group Storage
Each user account may optionally be enabled with a personal file area. Administrators can toggle automatic creation of personal file areas for all new accounts.
The system administrator may create a limitless number of groups, each with distinct file areas. Permissions are granular, meaning that some members of the group might have read-only access, while others will have full read and write capability.
From Storage...to Email
One of FileCatalyst Webmail's main uses is to send large files via email. Typically, the end user uploads the files during each transaction, like most online file-sending services. However, if a user wants to send files (or full directories) that are already in one of their storage areas, they simply select them and click a button.
Once a file has been selected for a “large attachment” it follows the web-based sending process. Learn More →
